ALGER COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – Authorities spent the past week conducting an extensive search in and around the 16 Mile Lake area as part of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Starla Goings.
The large-scale search began Thursday, Aug. 20, and continued through Thursday, Aug. 27, with multiple local, state, and federal agencies assisting the Alger County Sheriff’s Office.
The agencies involved included the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which provided its Underwater Search and Evidence Recovery Team, Evidence Response Team, aviation support, and canine teams. Also participating were U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, the Detroit Police Department Missing Persons Unit, Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officers and the U.S. Forest Service.
The Alger County Sheriff’s Office said significant resources have been devoted to the search and investigation and emphasized that the case remains active.
Authorities said the agencies involved remain committed to the investigation and will continue their efforts to locate Goings and determine what happened.
