CHATHAM, Mich. (WZMQ) – Chatham came alive this weekend for one of the U.P.’s favorite summer traditions.
The Alger County Fair has been showing out at the Alger County Fairgrounds – drawing thousands for livestock shows, a pasty bake-off, live music, a mechanical bull, dunk tank, bouncy houses, face painting, a pig roast, and more.
Local youth showed off their 4-H projects, and the fairgrounds were packed with food vendors, games, and all-day energy.
Fair Board President Paul Naasz says at its core, the fair is about something simple. “Today we’ve had the rabbit and poultry showmanship and classes, we had a nice parade at 2 O’clock, we’ve also had the pork dinner going on,” says Naasz. “It’s good for people to get out and see eachother and mingle and see what the kids have accomplished with their projects over the year. Just having a good old fashioned time.”
