MUNISING, Mich. (WZMQ) – Munising native Robert Steinhoff has announced his candidacy for a seat on the 11th Circuit Court.
Steinhoff, WHO has been Alger County’s prosecutor for the past seven years, says his campaign will highlight his background on both sides of the courtroom, as a defense lawyer and as a prosecutor.
His legal career includes a mix of trial work and court operations. Before returning to Munising in 2019, Steinhoff ran a criminal defense practice in southwest Michigan, handling cases from minor offenses to major felonies. He was later appointed county prosecutor by then-judge William W. Carmody, who went on to win the election to the position in 2020.
“I want to take what I have from my experience, and I want to take it to the bench, because I think I’m an accurate representation of the citizens that put me as prosecutor, and certainly across the Eleventh Circuit, which is my home,” said Stienhoff.
Steinhoff also worked for the Wisconsin Department of military affairs and the Homeland Security Administration.
