As businesses all around the Upper Peninsula celebrated milestones this year, one shop in downtown Marquette crossed the golden anniversary. Down Wind Sports has operated in Marquette and across the U.P. since 1976, and celebrated their 50th anniversary on August 27.
To celebrate the accomplishment, Down Wind held a silent auction for various gear. For all proceeds from the auction, Down Wind will be donating to a several local trail networks, from NTN Trails to Swedetown Trails.
“There’s actually nothing better than somebody coming in, and they really want to do something but they’re not sure how to do it,” said Down Wind Sports Co-Owner Bill Thompson. “It’s very exciting for us to show them the right gear, give them the advice so that they have success to go out and have these life sports.”
As they celebrate their 50th year assisting with all outdoor needs, Down Wind Sports hopes to be open for another 50 years.
