CHOCOLAY TWP, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Chocolay Township Lions Club has brought a new addition to its recreational field.
On Tuesday afternoon, they cut the ceremonial ribbon at a new volleyball area, fit with three nets and sand-pit courts. The project stems from a DNR recreation plan survey conducted a few years back, recognizing a lack of volleyball courts in the area and bringing an outpour of community support for the idea.
Chocolay Township Director of Public Works, Joe Neumann says the opening comes at the perfect time of year.
“We’re just hoping to activate this space with folks young and old out here, staying active, enjoying the outdoors,” he said. “We have such a short summer and I hope everybody can take advantage of it to the upmost degree.”
The volleyball pit can be found in the back area of the Lions Field Recreation Area, past both the baseball field and hockey rink.
