ALGER COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Grand Rapids man is facing child sex crime charges after the Alger County Sheriff’s Office says he was caught soliciting sex from a teenage girl during an undercover operation.
The sheriff’s office says 31-year-old Manuel Uribe-Mendez was arrested February 24 on charges of child sexually abusive activity and using a computer in the commission of a crime.
An undercover operation involved an officer posing as a 15-year-old girl communicating with Uribe-Mendez on social media. Uribe-Mendez allegedly communicated intentions of engaging in sexual intercourse with the undercover office, who he thought was a teen girl, and traveling from Grand Rapids to do so. When Derouin arrived at the predetermined location, he was immediately arrested. At arraignment, it was disclosed that there is evidence to support Uribe-Mendez is an undocumented immigrant.
Uribe-Mendez is currently lodged at the Alger County Jail awaiting a preliminary exam in 93rd District Court.
