FLORENCE, Wis. (WZMQ) – The Florence County Sheriff’s Office confirms a teen boy died Saturday, July 1 following a workplace incident two days prior.

On Thursday, June 29, deputies responded to Florence Hardwoods around 6:51 a.m. for a 16-year-old boy who was unresponsive. The teen was taken to Marshfield Medical Center- Dickinson and later transferred to Milwaukee Children’s Hospital where he died two days later.

The sheriff’s office says OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) was also notified. No other details have been released about the incident.

Though the sheriff’s office did not identify the teen due to the ongoing investigation, a GoFundMe page has been shared on social media, identifying the teen as Michael “Mikey” Schuls.

The Florence County School District offered counseling professionals at the school Monday afternoon for those interested. The district also set up a meal train for the Schuls family.
