ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Friday, Bay College hosted the 25th annual Upper Michigan Safety Conference.
Workers in a variety of industries had an opportunity to connect with health and safety experts, network, and learn about the latest protective gear from local and regional vendors. Attendees attended sessions on topics like fall protection, chemical safety management, chainsaw safety, and workplace violence.
At the beginning of the conference, the director of the state’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration read the names of the 46 Michigan workers who died on the job in 2025. Attendees then participated in a moment of silence and reflected on the importance of workplace safety.
“Bay College has been a leader in safety because we firmly believe that our workforce has a strong culture of safety,” said Bay College Business Development Manager Reneé Lundberg. “We want to support our workforce and our partners in that area to really ensure that their employees work safe, work smart, and—really importantly—be able to go home at the end of the day.”
Keynote speaker Brad Hurtig shared the story of a workplace injury he suffered in high school, which caused his hands to be amputated. He told attendees about the importance of preventative measures and awareness on the job site. To learn more about Hurtig, click here.
