STEPHENSON, Mich. – Human remains have been recovered from a home on Robert Street after the residence was destroyed by flames in the early hours of Wednesday, April 29.
According to Menominee County Sheriff Darrin Kudwa, deputies and firefighters responded to reports of a house fire at about 4 a.m. Rescue efforts began immediately, but no occupants were found inside the home during the firefighting operation. However, authorities confirmed that one resident—a 38-year-old man from Stephenson—remained unaccounted for.
In the aftermath of the blaze, assistance from a Michigan State Police Fire Investigator and a specially trained canine team helped locate human remains in the debris on the property. These remains are currently undergoing identification processes. Further information about the deceased will be provided once positive identification is made and the man’s family has been notified.
The incident remains under active investigation, with officials seeking to uncover the cause of the fire and any related details.
