MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – After launching a $1.2 million dollar capital campaign in March, Saint Vincent de Paul has began an expansion to its Marquette district.
The project will revitalize its Presque Isle Avenue facility, housing an educational conference room and additional confidential offices, allowing for more clients to be assisted at once. On Wednesday morning, community members joined staff and regional representatives to take part in a groundbreaking at the location.
“We have such a wonderful group of volunteers,” said Marquette District President, Karen Reese. “Without that enthusiasm and the sheer number who are part of this, we would’ve never have undertaken this project.”
After four years of planning, the revitalization project is set to be completed in February. The store will remain open and continue its ongoing services during construction. Reese says the next step in the county is to focus on its Gwinn location.
“We’re making improvements to the facility and the store out there,” she explained. “Our plan for the future, I’m hoping in the next year, is to have satelite operations of our financial aid services in Gwinn and at K.I. Sawyer.”
While the initially targeted funds have been raised, the Marquette district is still accepting any additional community support. More details can be found here.
