Ishpeming Middle School recieves donation

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Fox Marquette Subaru surprised Ishpeming Middle-High School teachers with a $7,500 donation through the Subaru Loves Learning® initiative in partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org®.

This support comes as teachers and families face a widening classroom-supply gap. Teachers now spend an average of $895 out of pocket each year on classroom materials, an amount that has increased nearly 50% since 2015, while 93% of educators have students whose families cannot afford school supplies, according to AdoptAClassroom.org.

The contribution will support 15 classrooms serving more than 315 students at Ishpeming Middle-High School. Each participating teacher received $500 in funding to purchase supplies through the AdoptAClassroom.org Marketplace, with available items ranging from notebooks and calculators to creative learning tools. They also received curated Subaru school supply kits stocked with classroom essentials such as pencils, crayons, dry-erase markers and cleaning wipes.

“Today was a meaningful way to recognize our teachers and celebrate the start of a new school year,” said Seth Hoopingarner, superintendent at Ishpeming Public Schools. “These additional resources will help create strong learning environments for our students. We are grateful to Fox Marquette Subaru for investing in our school.”

The event marks the first year of the partnership between Fox Marquette Subaru and Ishpeming Middle-High School and reflects the retailer’s ongoing commitment to local students, teachers, schools, and the broader community.

“Teachers bring tremendous care, creativity and commitment to their classrooms, and this event showed how much their work means to our community,” said Luke Hubbard, general manager at Fox Marquette Subaru. “Through Subaru Loves Learning, we are proud to support the educators and students at Ishpeming Middle-High School as part of our commitment to local schools. We hope every teacher begins the year feeling valued and appreciated.”

In addition to investing in local educators through Subaru Loves Learning, Fox Marquette Subaru partners with organizations including UPAWS, Steve Mariucci Family Beacon House, Superior Alliance for Independent Living, and more. Through these efforts, the retailer helps advance causes that matter to local students, families and neighbors.

The local effort is part of the sixth year of Subaru’s partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org. By the end of 2026, Subaru Loves Learning will surpass 1 million students supported nationwide. Subaru remains AdoptAClassroom.org’s largest corporate supporter, with more than 630 Subaru retailers participating in this year’s initiative.
