GRANT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information about a fire in Grant Township.

The sheriff’s office says deputies responded to a report of a large plume of smoke near Horse Shoe Harbor Monday afternoon.

A nearby camp owner checked the source before deputies arrived on the scene and found his camp, the nearby woods, and one of his vehicles was on fire.

The camp was fully engulfed and is a total loss.

Copper Harbor and Lac La Belle Fire Departments, along with the DNR Fire Division, worked to contain the forest fire to a relatively small area.

The fire is suspected of igniting between 11:45 a.m. and 2:47 p.m. Monday. The cause is still under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office at 906-337-0528.
