FORD RIVER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – On the evening of Tuesday, June 16, Ford River Township is conducting emergency leak detection within its water distribution system.

A notice from the Township states that to safely identify the source of a suspected water system leak, it is necessary to temporarily shut down water service in the affected area. The work will impact properties located from E4592 M-35 through E5113 M-35. The shutdown is expected to last from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

During this time, customers may experience a complete loss of water service or reduced water pressure. Once service is restored, some customers may also notice temporary discoloration of their water due to changes in water flow within the system. Residents are advised to run cold water from a faucet for several minutes until the water clears. They should also avoid washing laundry until the water runs clear.

Due to the loss of water pressure during the shutdown, residents in the affected area will be placed under a boil water notice upon restoration of service. The notice will remain in effect until required bacteriological sampling has been completed and satisfactory results have been received. This process is expected to take several days. Additional notification will be provided when the boil water notice has been lifted.

Any questions should be directed to Water System Operator Troy Rodman at (906) 241-4346.
