Forsyth Township issues drinking water warning

by Lily Simmons

A local plumbing contractor says letting the faucet drip is a proven way to prevent pipes from freezing.

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – Forsyth Township residents are advised to boil their water before using it due to possible contamination.

According to a press release from the Township, a drop in pressure may have caused bacterial contamination in the water system. A boil advisory is in effect as of Wednesday morning, and it is expected to last for 24 to 48 hours.

The release states that while bacteria are”generally not harmful” and common, the Township is taking measures to correct the issue. Water staff are flushing and collecting bacteriological samples to determine whether or not the water quality meets state standards. Residents will be notified when the boil advisory is lifted after the water has been verified as safe to drink.

The Gwinn Area Community Schools made a Facebook post alerting students’ guardians that from 8:00 a.m. to 8:55 a.m., the school was without water pressure. Custodial and maintenance staff purchased bottled water for all elementary, middle, and high school students and staff members.

Anyone with questions about Forsyth Township’s water pressure or the boil advisory is asked to contact Paul Back at (906) 346-9217 or pback@forsythtwpmi.org. To read the Township’s full press release on the situation, click here.
