MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A seasonal art shop in Manistique is officially open for the summer.
The Lake Effect Community Arts Center Gallery Store is now open Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Inside, patrons will find everything from paintings, photography, and pottery to woodworking, stained glass art, and jewelry.
About 50 local artists sell their work through the shop. Some of those artists even work as staff members, ready to help guests find the perfect piece.
“These artists, they look outside their window, they look inside their soul, and then they put this into their art,” said Lake Effect Operations Manager Katie Birdsley. “How lucky are we to get to wander through an area that’s just full of the art and soul of the U.P.? Each year as it gets set up, it curates a different feel. This year, you can feel the polished aspect; you can feel just how lovely it is.”
The Gallery Store will host a grand opening on Saturday, June 6, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., coinciding with an opening reception for the center’s latest exhibition. The Lake Effect Community Arts Center is located at 244 South Cedar Street. Follow Lake Effect Community Arts on Facebook to keep up with activities and events at the center.
