MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says to highly avoid burning Wednesday and Thursday.
A combination of low humidity, high temperatures, and wind gusts has led the DNR to close burn permits for open burning until further notice.
At this time, small contained campfires are not entirely banned, but be sure to keep an eye on your surrounding forecast, never leave a fire unattended, and thoroughly extinguish flames and coals. If a fire becomes out of hand, call 911.
“While open burning is banned, we ask that folks keep their contained fires small. One spark could cause a wildfire because it’s that dry right now,” said Marquette DNR Fire Management Specialist, Keith Murphy.
