GLADSTONE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Cities and municipalities throughout the state celebrated Downtown Day on Saturday, September 28. For the first time, Gladstone held an event to celebrate in the afternoon.
The Gladstone Downtown Development Authority (DDA) sponsored the city’s inaugural Downtown Day celebration, which stretched across Delta Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets. Businesses drew guests with sidewalk sales, specials, and giveaways, while vendors and artisans set up tents along the street to sell their goods. Attendees enjoyed live music by The Make-Believe Spurs as they strolled through the street fair.
Joanne Chouinard, owner of Chouinard’s Creations, regularly sells upcycled glass bottle wind chimes at the Farmers Market. She said Downtown Day was a great opportunity for vendors to reach a new audience.
“It’s good for us to share our crafts and our love of our community,” said Chouinard. “It’s great to just enjoy the nice weather and see friends that have come down to visit and check out what’s going on in Gladstone.”
The last City of Gladstone Farmers Market of the season will take place on Monday, September 30. After that, the Gladstone DDA will begin planning for the annual Old Fashioned Christmas on Friday, November 29.
