SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A house fire that killed a woman in Sault Ste. Marie in April was ruled as an accidental cooking fire that started in the kitchen.
The Sault Ste. Marie Fire Department responded to the fire just after 11 p.m. on April 15. The victim, Amber Vasser, was found dead in the home during the firefighting operation.
An investigation after the fire was completed with the help of the Michigan State Police Fire Investigative Unit and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department. The fire department says for 2024, kitchen fires are the second leading cause of fire deaths in the State of Michigan.
