BREITUNG TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Niagara, Wisc. man is dead after a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Dickinson County.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says on Oct. 28, the dispatch center received an alert at 2:56 a.m. that the owner of an Apple iPhone was in a severe crash and not responding to their phone.
Deputies were sent to the area where the call’s coordinates came from on Upper Pine Creek Rd. in Breitung Township.
Based on an investigation, deputies say a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling westbound when the vehicle went off the roadway and struck a tree.
The driver, a 20-year-old man from Niagara, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, a 19-year-old man from Iron Mountain, was taken to Marshfield Medical Center Dickinson for non-life threatening injuries.
Speed and alcohol are believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were Iron Mountain Police, Michigan State Police, Kingsford Public Safety, Iron Mountain Fire Department, Breitung Fire, Integrity Ambulance and R&R Towing.
