IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Lake Antoine Park Partners of Dickinson County are hopeful for help in its ‘Everyone Plays in 21 Days’ initiative, looking to meet its second fundraising phase for the playground by October 12.
Park Partners Vice President Barbara Kramer says the first phase raised over $230,000 dollars last summer.
“We’ve been able to offer this to our area and we’re very proud of it,” she said. “People here are very excited for our new playground.”
The park area includes equipment for all ages and abilities, with a recent addition of more handicap accessible play features built on soft, artificual turf. After several successful donations in previous projects, the board anticipates $40,000 by the deadline, having already reached over $7,000 by day 11 of 21.
“I think the community is going to step up and we’re going to be perfect,” said Kramer. “We do need donations to finish this project, and we thank the community ahead of time for their support.”
The park joins Marquette’s Lower Harbor Park as the second accessibly framed playground of its kind in the Upper Peninsula. A celebration for the park is set to take place in the spring. Donations of any kind can be made by visiting lakeantoine.org/everyone-plays.
