LANSING, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Friday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the appointment of Dr. Amber Libby of Saint Ignace to the 6th District Probate Court in Mackinac and Luce Counties.

“I am proud to appoint Amber to the 6th District Probate Court Bench in Mackinac and Luce Counties,” Governor Whitmer said. “Amber is a skilled legal professional who brings years of experience and dedication to her community. I am confident that she will serve the people of Michigan admirably and uphold the rule of law.”

Dr. Amber Libby previously served as a senior assistant public defender at the Marquette County Office of the Public Defender. Dr. Libby also previously served as managed assigned counsel for indigent defense at the Cheboygan County Office of Assigned Counsel and chief assistant prosecuting attorney at the Cheboygan County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Dr. Libby is also a member of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan – Tip of the Mitt Region.

Libby holds a Bachelor of Science in political science from Northern Michigan University, a Master of Public Administration from Central Michigan University, a Juris Doctor and Master of Laws from Western Michigan University’s Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and both a Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in criminal justice and justice administration from Walden University.

“I am truly grateful to receive the distinct honor of a judicial appointment from Governor Whitmer and to be able to continue to serve Upper Peninsula communities,” she said. “I am sincerely reverent to the duties, responsibilities, integrity, and respect for the law being entrusted in me through this appointment to the 6th District Probate Court bench. I am a proud Yooper, and I treasure this opportunity.”
