Updated information from the Baraga County Court confirms that Dawaun Johnson was the semi-driver involved in this explosion. The Baraga County Court will hold a hearing for Johnson on November 1st.

L’ANSE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A man who was pumping gas is dead after the driver of a semi crashed into a gas station and caused a fire in L’Anse late Thursday night, according to Michigan State Police.

22-year-old Johnson from Illinois was arrested for operating while intoxicated causing death, investigators said. It was reported at the Holiday gas station on U.S.-41 in L’Anse Michigan around 11 p.m.

The semi and trailer hit the gas pumps, injuring a 43-year-old Baraga man who was fueling a vehicle at the time, according to State Police. The victim, who has not been named, was taken to Baraga County Memorial Hospital where he later died.

A Holiday employee was also taken to the same hospital for treatment of injuries. A store customer and trainee who was a passenger in the semi were not hurt.

The crash caused the gas station and surrounding vehicles to catch fire.

Troopers said the scene is still active as of Friday morning, and State Police are investigating.
