ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Monday, May 18, 2026 at 4:03 a.m., the Ishpeming Fire Department was called out for a structure fire at 703 W. Empire Street, Canda Manor Apartments in Ishpeming City.
According to a press release from the Ishpeming Fire Department, light smoke was seen upon arrival coming from the third floor. The fire was located in a bathroom wall and quickly extinguished. For nearly two hours, firefighters were on scene performing overhaul and checking for fire extension. There was extensive water damage to the two units directly below the fire, and a water pipe was later found that had burst before or during the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
All residents were able to get out safely, and no injuries were reported.
Ishpeming Fire Department was assisted by the Ishpeming Township Fire Department, Marquette County Rescue 131, UP Health Systems West, Ishpeming Police Department and Marquette County Central Dispatch. The Pigs-n-heat fire relief fund will be helping any residents displaced by the fire.
