MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – Average gas prices this Labor Day weekend are expected to sit at the highest rates for the holiday in over ten years.
After continued high trends through July and August, the national average sat above $4 every day last month. In Michigan, this is expected to carry into the holiday weekend, bringing some of the the highest labor day costs since 2012.
“On September 3rd of 2012, the Michigan average was about $4.05. The state average of today is about the same,” said AAA Public Relations Program Consultant Adrienne Woodland. “The Michigan average for Labor Day in 2025 was about $3.30.”
In previous years where crude oil prices tended to remain steady throughout the summer, a decline in prices by this time of year is typically expected. However, with rapid changes in those prices from recent global tensions, the future of gas prices are currently difficult to map out.
“Crude oil has been very volatile for several months now, so it’s hard to say where things will go, but we will likely at least see that decrease in demand into the fall,” said Woodland.
