ELY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Barnes-Hecker 100th Anniversary Committee has announced an important update regarding the Barnes-Hecker Memorial Park dedication ceremony.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, September 5, the event has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 17, at 11:00 a.m. The change allows for additional time to complete the landscaping and planting planned throughout the park, which are intended to honor the memory of the 51 miners killed in the 1926 Barnes-Hecker Mine disaster. The committee is committed to ensuring the site reflects the dignity, care, and historical significance this tragedy holds for the community.
The Barnes-Hecker Memorial Park is located on County Road CL in Ely Township, just west of Ishpeming. To learn about other events planned in memory of the Barnes-Hecker Mine disaster this year, click here.
