ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – A domestic violence investigation in Ishpeming Township has resulted in the arrest of a man and a woman and the rescue of two children and several animals.
Michigan State Police responded to a domestic violence report on June 23, executing a search warrant on the home. There, they found two children, 16 dogs, and one cat living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. Extensive animal feces and urine, along with evidence the children and animals were not being properly cared for was found throughout the home.
An an unnamed man is charged with aggravated domestic violence, domestic violence, second-degree child abuse, and animal abuse. An unnamed woman is charged with second-degree child abuse and animal abuse.
The children were placed with a relative as Child Protective Services continues its investigation. The dogs and cat were placed in the care of UPAWS.
UPAWS is now at capacity and unable to accept owner surrenders or stray dogs at this time. UPAWS is encouraging adoptions in order to free up their space.
