NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The City of Negaunee marked Arbor Day this evening with a tree planting, and a tribute to one of its own.
The fifth annual Arbor Day celebration brought residents to the Jim Thomas Pavilion to honor John “Tino” Argall, a Negaunee man who owned Tino’s Bar and Pizza for decades, coached youth sports, and rarely missed a chance to support his community or his grandchildren.
Argall passed away in 2015, but was posthumously awarded Negaunee’s Community Growth award tonight, with a tree planted in his honor as a means to remember him.
“Planting a tree in somebody’s honor is a way to cement a legacy,” says Nate Heffron, the City Manager of Negaunee. “Trees last a long time as long as we take care of them, and in this park we intend to nurture these trees just like those residents that were planting them before us, they nurtured our community.”
For a man who spent his life rooting for others, now something will grow in his honor.
