CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A 34-year-old Alpena man was arrested in Chippewa County on charges of criminal sexual conduct.
A subject wanted on an eight-count felony warrant for criminal sexual conduct was taken into custody today at the Soo Locks. The arrest of this subject was unrelated to the closure of the locks today, June 4, 2025.
In 2024, the Michigan State Police (MSP) Alpena Post initiated an investigation into allegations of criminal sexual conduct, resulting in felony charges being issued by the Alpena County Prosecutor’s Office.
MSP had information that the suspect was employed aboard the freighter M/V Kaye E. Barker. As the Kaye E. Barker passed through the Soo Locks on Wednesday, troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie Post and the Seventh District Fugitive Team coordinated with the freighter’s captain and staff from the Soo Locks. As the boat tied up, troopers boarded the freighter and placed the suspect under arrest.
The man was safely taken into custody and was transported to the Alpena County Jail.
