CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Chippewa County man died on Saturday in a Whitefish Township snowmobile crash.
At approximately 3:20 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Sault Ste. Marie Post responded to a report of a serious snowmobile crash on West Green Shack Road near South Chippewa Hunt Club Row. The preliminary investigation found that the driver was traveling southbound on West Green Shack Road when his snowmobile struck an embankment, causing it to go airborne.
A 62-year-old man from Eckerman was ejected from the snowmobile. Witnesses attempted to administer emergency medical aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.
MSP was assisted by Whitefish Township Fire and EMS and Chippewa County Central Dispatch.
