SANDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – Two women have been treated for injuries after two-vehicle collision over the weekend.
On Sunday, April 27, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a head-on crash on M-553 near Airport Road. A 72-year-old Marquette woman was driving a 2020 Toyota RAV4 northbound when she collided with a southbound 2011 Ford Fiesta, which was being driven by a 57-year-old Gwinn woman.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a witness stated that the RAV4 was driving over the center line, resulting in an offset head-on collision with the Fiesta. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Both drivers were conscious but entrapped. They were extricated by emergency personnel and transported to the UPHS – Marquette ER for non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles were totaled.
Neither alcohol nor speed were factors in the crash. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, and all airbags deployed during the crash.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by UP Health System EMS, Sands Township EMS, Rescue 131, the Michigan State Police, and the Forsyth Township Police Department.
