DETROIT, Mich. (WZMQ) – Former President Barack Obama is scheduled to speak to Michiganders at a rally in Detroit tonight. Early voting kicks off this weekend and the Harris Walz campaign is pushing for people to take advantage of the new opportunity.
Obama is set to take the podium at 7:45 p.m. to discuss the options for casting your ballot before November 5th.
People have been lined up at The Huntington Center in Detroit since 11:00 am. Lined up around the block, men and women of all ages said they’ve already taken advantage of early voting options to cast their ballots.
The rallygoers said that while they are ready for the election to be over, they feel like there is too much at stake to slow down now. Veronica Taylor, a 65-year-old from Pontiac said she hopes every single person at tonight’s rally shows up to vote so Democrats can secure the election, protect women’s rights, education, and unite the U.S..
“I see the lines, I’d rather see the voters,” Taylor said. “I want to know you voted. I don’t want you to just come to the rally and don’t vote. I want you to vote.”
Just last week, former President Trump held a rally in the same room, addressing voters for what his campaign says is the 13th trip he’s taken to Michigan.
Both campaigns have focused in on swing states with just two weeks left to win over the votes they need to secure the presidency. Harris has managed to make seven visits since her campaign was announced in late July.
