GLADSTONE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Saturday, September 28, communities throughout Michigan will celebrate Downtown Day. While this will be some cities’ fifth year of Downtown Day festivities, one Delta County city is planning its very first celebration.
The Gladstone Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is sponsoring the city’s inaugural Downtown Day. The portion of Delta Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets will be closed from noon to 4 p.m. for a street fair, which will feature sidewalk sales, farmers market vendors, artisans, and live music by The Make-Believe Spurs.
“We thought we would give it a try this year,” said DDA Director Patricia West. “Our salons might be open and you might be able to catch a walk-in appointment. You can pop into any of our service-based businesses as well and grab a bite to eat.”
West believes the event will promote foot traffic for downtown storefronts and increase exposure for businesses located “off the beaten path” of Delta Avenue.
“This is going to be a great thing for the downtown because we haven’t done anything like this in several years,” she said. “We have a lot of new businesses that have come to town, and we want to make sure that we’re making people aware of them, giving them a spotlight, and just allowing people to check out our downtown and see what we have to offer.”
