IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Saturday, August 10, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with several investigative agencies, executed a search warrant on more than 200 acres in Breitung Township. The search, focused on the area near Upper Pine Creek Road and Grandview Drive, was connected to the disappearance and presumed death of Nancy Renkas, a resident of Florence County, Wisconsin, who vanished in July 2016.
Authorities believe the search area to be the last known location where Renkas was seen alive. The joint operation was confirmed in a statement released by the Dickinson County Prosecutor’s Office and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office. While the investigation remains ongoing, officials have not released further details.
Last year, on the 7-year anniversary of Nancy Renkas’s disappearance, WZMQ reported that the milestone allowed new legal proceedings to begin in the investigation. Renkas had been missing since July 18, 2016. The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan Attorney General’s Office are collaborating on the case. Renkas was last seen at a Super One Foods parking lot in Iron Mountain getting into a white SUV. Despite locating the vehicle and interviewing a suspect, no arrests had been made as of July 2023. The sheriff’s office has continued to encourage anyone with any information to come forward.
