WELLS, Mich. (WZMQ) – This week, clerks throughout Delta County are testing the accuracy of their early voting equipment.
On Tuesday, Delta County Clerk Nancy Przewrocki tested a tabulator at Wells Township Hall by running a large volume of ballots through it. Some ballots were filled out correctly, while others were blank, some were over-votes, and some had stray markings.
The test ensured the equipment caught each error and alerted the voter, who could choose whether to redo their ballot or cast it anyway. Przewrocki then verified that the tabulator counted the correct number of legitimate votes.
“We’re testing the ballots against the programmed memory cards to make sure that it’s tabulating all of the ballots correctly,” she explained. “We know what the outcome should be, and we want to make sure that’s what the tabulator results are giving us.”
Przewrocki says the test is part of the regular process of preparing for the August primary election.
“We test for accuracy prior to the election to make sure that they’re all working properly,” she said. “If there is an issue, we have three weeks to make any corrections. We’ve never had to do that, but we always want to make sure that everything is working exactly how it should be.”
Przewrocki hopes residents will make sure to vote and feel secure that their ballots will count.
