SANDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – Local shelter animals are looking for their forever home, and summertime is a time for a new adoption. From now until July 22, the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter is having an ‘Empty the Shelter’ event, sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation.
Cats one year and older will be $5, and dogs one year and older will be $25. Small animals like rabbits and gerbils have a waived adoption fee. Each adoption comes spayed or neutered and microchipped.
“So it is another way to shine the limelight on adoption and that animals need home 24/7, 365 days, so at UPAWS, were going to focus on the adults,” said UPAWS Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator Ann Brownell.
Over 400 shelters across the country take part in this event. Click here to find your new furry friend.
