UPPER PENINSULA, Mich, (WZMQ) – The Michigan Auto Association expects to see record travel numbers this holiday weekend, so the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has some reminders for people on the road.
MDOT will be pausing 14 of the 22 active road construction projects in the UP to help make way for cars, but there will still be several places to keep an eye out for.
The roundabout construction on Highway 41 in Ishpeming will still limit the road to one lane in each direction, and as always, the Mackinac Bridge is expected to be very busy.
MDOT encourages drivers to be alert in congested areas.
“We’re doing what we can to suspend construction and improve safety,” said MDOT Communications Representative Dan Weingarten. “Leave early, leave yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. Remember to buckle up, stay alert, and avoid distractions at all times while you’re driving, but especially if you’re going through a work zone.”
