MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Manistique is preparing for an extended Independence Day celebration this weekend.
The festivities begin on Friday, July 5, with a Kiddie Parade at 6 p.m. On Saturday, July 6, the Annual Independence Day Parade begins at 12:30 p.m. The parade will feature the Manistique High School Marching Band, and this year’s theme is “Blast from the Past.”
Throughout Saturday, Downtown Manistique will be filled with food vendors and an arts and crafts fair, all coinciding with the city’s Social District. The celebration concludes with a fireworks display at dusk.
Schoolcraft Tourism & Commerce Executive Director Victoria George says each year, the Fourth of July marks the beginning of the area’s busy season.
“Fourth of July is a big tourist time in the U.P. and also here in Schoolcraft County,” she said. “We get the most visitors between the Fourth of July through our Folk Fest weekend, so it definitely helps our economy.”
Kiddie Parade lineup begins Friday at 5:30 p.m., and Saturday’s parade lineup begins at 11:30 a.m. Click here for more information on Manistique’s Independence Day celebration.
