UPPER PENINSULA, Mich. – Crews from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be performing routine bridge inspections on structures in the Upper Peninsula from June 3 to 7. The inspections will require intermittent closures.
The following closures are scheduled for the inspections. The work is weather dependent:
- Monday, June 3: The outside northbound lane of US-41/M-26 will be closed on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge between the cities of Houghton and Hancock from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m.
- Tuesday, June 4: The outside southbound lane of US-41/M-26 will be closed on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m.
- Wednesday, June 5: Northbound or southbound right-lane closures of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge may be needed from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m., contingent on weather or other delays.
- Thursday, June 6:
- The M-38 bridge over the Firesteel River will have lane closures under flag control from 8 to 9:30 a.m.
- The US-45 bridge over the East Branch of the Ontonagon River will have lane closures under flag control from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- The M-28 bridge over the Ontonagon River will have lane closures under flag control from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
- Friday, June 7:
- The US-41 bridge over the Sturgeon River will have lane closures under flag control from 8 to 10 a.m.
- Westbound US-2 will have the right lane closed at the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad bridge from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The left lane of westbound US-2 will be closed from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
These inspections will help ensure continued safe and reliable operation of the bridges.
