IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) A new chapter begins as the Dickinson Area Economic Development Alliance welcomes its new director, Mindy Meyers. Stepping into the shoes of her predecessor, Meyers brings with her a vision of community collaboration and growth.
“I’m just excited to be in the role and to take over the great work that Lois has done. She’s been an absolute great mentor,” Meyers expressed, reflecting on her transition period shadowing the previous director. “We do a career and technical education recognition for those seniors that are graduating, and we’ll be awarding those seniors tomorrow, at the tech center.”
With a focus on bolstering the local talent pool and addressing housing shortages, Meyers dives into her role with fervor. Among her initiatives is the Careers and Technical Education Recognition Program, aimed at honoring seniors embarking on trade careers post-graduation. Out of 48 nominations, eight standout students have been selected, representing various area schools and trade specialties.
Ben Wucherer from Forest Park High School, skilled in welding, stands alongside Luke Wolfe, the industrious industrial trades teacher from Iron Mountain High School. Grayson Palmer, a welding prodigy hailing from Kingsford High School, and Delaney Kramer, with a passion for educational careers from North Dickinson High School, round out the cohort.
Joining them are Justin Hosking, a Guide Star cybersecurity enthusiast from Norway High School; Jonathan Swenski, mastering heavy equipment operation at West Iron County High School; Aengus Patterson, delving into IT from Niagara High School; and Joey Holstrom, pursuing automation engineering technology at Florence High School.
“We appreciate all who had nominated seniors going into a trades career after high school,” Meyers expressed gratitude for the community’s support. “We hope this program shines a light on these outstanding students who are opting for careers that are in demand and both financially and personally rewarding.”
Excited to reconnect with the community and drive positive change, Meyers reflects on her passion for the area. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share how amazing our area is and to be a part of the positive changes and growth we’ve seen in the last few years here.”
