ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Bay College is celebrating the hard work of some of its most creative students with a special art exhibit.
The “Celebration of Student Success” exhibit opened this week, with an artist reception Thursday afternoon. The Besse Gallery exhibit features displays of photography, animation, 2-D design, and painting.
Many students received prizes for their work. The top pieces from each category were awarded purchase prizes and will be added to Bay College’s permanent collection.
Student Ashleigh Davis earned two purchase prizes, one for animation and another for painting. The painting is a special piece to Davis, as it is dedicated to the memory of her late cousin.
“I feel amazing that I can have this here permanently for my cousin, especially this one,” said Davis. “This is based off of my cousin Nicholas, and I feel very proud of myself. I feel like I’m doing it for him.”
Davis is honored that others will be able to see her work after the exhibit comes to a close.
“I hope they feel emotion from it, and I hope it tells a story for them,” she said. “I hope they can see it and relate it to their own personal experiences as well.”
The “Celebration of Student Success” exhibit will remain on display through August. It is free and open to the public.
