Expired or unused medication can be disposed at MSP posts

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Michigan State Police along with all other police departments in the state are taking part in a new program to dispose of old medication. On Saturday, April 27th from 10 am to 2 pm, the Drug Takeback Day allows anyone to bring unused or expired medication for disposal.

Medications are preferred to be in pill form, as they cannot accept syringes, liquids, or cream medication. There is a dropoff location at each post along with local police departments.

“If people store medications in their home it can pose a risk potentially if there are children in the home or if there’s a potential break-in and criminals are looking to obtain those medications, this gives people an option to get rid of those medications in a safe manner,” commented Michigan State Police Sgt. Ben Eckola.

The Drug Take Back drop off is available to the public during regular business hours Monday-Friday from 8 AM-4 PM.
