ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Authorities are urging caution on the lakes after another ice rescue on Monday.
Around 12:25 p.m. on February 26, Delta County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to Big Bay de Noc near Fayette State Park. According to a department Facebook post, a man walked onto the ice to fish. A large piece broke off and floated away. The man was about 300 – 400 yards away from shore.
The Masonville Township Fire Department’s airboat was able to safely bring the man to shore uninjured. Other crews assisting at the scene included the Michigan State Police, Delta County Search and Rescue, Ensign Fire, and TriStar EMS.
