ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Friday evening, police responded to an apparent vehicle fire in Escanaba.
Just after 9:30 p.m., a loud boom was heard throughout the city. Delta County Central Dispatch then received multiple calls about explosions coming from a vehicle on First Avenue South and South Second Street. The vehicle was on the roadway with no other structures nearby.
When the Escanaba Public Safety Department arrived on scene, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. Officers utilized an attack line and extinguished the fire.
The vehicle’s occupants were able to exit safely, and no injuries were reported. The source of the explosions was identified as a nitrous oxide bottle.
Crews began clearing the scene at roughly 10:40 p.m. Escanaba Public Safety thanks Delta County Central Dispatch, the City of Escanaba Public Works Department, and Gene’s Towing for their assistance.
