More Vandalism Closes Miners Park Bathroom in Negaunee

NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Earlier this afternoon, more vandalism was found in the bathrooms at Miners Park in Negaunee. This is the second case of vandalism in the same bathroom this year, the first took place towards the end of May.

Negaunee City Manager Nate Heffron says the first case was just rocks, sticks, and dirt being flushed down toilets, but this time damage was done to the baby changing station in the women’s bathroom. Heffron says it could have created a potentially dangerous situation if used.

“I made a commitment to the folks that live in this city that if this restroom was vandalized again this summer that we would shut it down for a period of time.” Heffron says, “We now have to make some repairs to these bathrooms in order for them to be functional for the public because of the vandalism.”

Heffron says there are cameras in the park, though they current are not working, The City is working to repair the cameras as well. The park bathrooms will be out of order for at least two weeks while repairs are done and the changing station is replaced.
