ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – This Labor Day weekend, an Upper Peninsula tradition is celebrating its 51st year at the U.P. State Fairgrounds.
Happening September 4 through 7, the U.P. Steam & Gas Engine Show features hundreds of antique tractors, a knife and gun show, and a flea market. The Antique Village is also open for shopping, dining, and sawmill demonstrations.
The show fulfills the U.P. Steam & Gas Engine Association’s mission of preserving agricultural history. It’s also a way for members to educate the public on the importance of the machines on display.
“Especially the younger generation, to understand where their food and fiber comes from,” said association President Jim Yoder. “You don’t just go to Walmart every day and get what you need. It’s got to start from somewhere—the labor and the dedication it took to get it to the store or to the table. Besides, it’s fun to play with some of these guys that you only get to see once a year.”
The U.P. Steam & Gas Engine Show runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with pancake breakfasts offered from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tickets cost $7 per day or $12 for the weekend. Admission will be free on Labor Day.
