ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Escanaba Public Safety Department responded to two fires in the early hours of Sunday, July 5.
At 12:16 a.m., officers were dispatched to a reported front porch fire on 10th Avenue South. The occupants evacuated, and the homeowner knocked down the flames with a fire extinguisher. Officers arrived on scene with a hose line and confirmed that the fire had not extended into the residence.
Then at 12:46 a.m., officers were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire in the bed of a truck on the 600 block of Ludington Street. The truck was parked on the street next to other vehicles and close to an apartment building. As officers began to arrive, fireworks stored in the bed of the truck began going off in all directions. Officers utilized an attack line and extinguished the fire before damage could be done to any other property.
