MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A long-standing figure in Marquette city politics will be on the ballot for a seat on the Marquette County Commission later this year.
Jenna Smith held positions in the Marquette Housing Commission from 2015 through 2017. She then sat on the Marquette City Commission for two terms, serving as mayor from 2019 until 2022, before leaving office in 2024.
Following the resignation of late county commissioner, Steve Adamini, his seat has been temporarily filled until a new commissioner will be voted on in the fall. Smith says the role would be a large step up from a city perspective, but that her years of work for the area would help guide the transition.
“County commission is a different level, it’s similar in some ways and different in others,” she said. “I think I bring quite a bit of experience, but also I know there’s a lot to learn, and I’m ready and capable to do that learning.”
Smith will run as a democrat, and will be on the Tuesday, August 4 special election primary ballot for District 3.
