HEMATITE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Hematite Township early Thursday morning.
At approximately 3:35 a.m., the Iron County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle accident on US-141 near Offerman Road. When deputies arrived, they located a 2021 International box truck and a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado with extensive damage.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 45-year-old woman from Vulcan, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 22-year-old female passenger, also from Vulcan, was transported to Aspirus Iron River for treatment of injuries. The driver of the truck, a 55-year-old male from Felch, did not sustain injuries. Their names are being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
Investigation shows the Chevrolet Colorado was southbound on Highway 141 when it crossed the center line, colliding with the International box truck. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Amasa Fire Department, the Michigan State Police, Iron County Search and Rescue, the Iron County Road Commission, the Baraga County Road Commission, Aspirus EMS, MDOT, and Iron County Central Dispatch.
