Marquette Food Co-op to host annual Earth Day clean-up

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette Food Co-op’s Board of Directors is hosting its fourth annual Earth Day clean-up event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25.

Those interested are to meet in the Co-op’s basement classroom to receive supplies like gloves and trash bags. The initiative aims to cover as much of town as possible, but staff says attendees can head out to wherever they choose.

“We want people to be able to go clean up where they live,” said Co-op Board Secretary, Olivia Kingery. “Not only just Earth Day but every day we should be thinking about the spaces we inhabit and how we can make those better for not just ourselves, but our more-than-human counterparts, and the earth itself.

In prior years, the clean-up has proven well from the community, with roughly 50 volunteers who showed up in 2025, filling bags upon bags of trash.

“Last year, we filled a dumpster, people brought back anywhere from one to five trash bags, so it makes a difference,” said Kingery.

Partridge Creek Compost, Recycle 906, the Superior Watershed Partnership, and the Yellowdog Watershed Preserve will also be in the store throughout the day to share more about their work. Free trees will be available from Superior Watershed Partnership.

The event is free to the public, with no registration needed. More information can be found here.
