Leads league in three-point shooting
HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech men’s basketball freshman guard Ty Fernholz has been named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for week Nine, the league announced Monday. This marks the fourth Offensive Player of the Week honors for the Huskies and the first of Fernholz’s young career.
Fernholz, a native of Stoughton, Wisconsin, was vital in the Huskies earning its second GLIAC weekend sweep of the season with an 88-65 victory at Northern Michigan on Thursday and an 82-59 win at the SDC Gymnasium on Saturday. He steadily was the second-best scorer for the Black & Gold, averaging 19 points on 13-for-19 from the field (68.4 percent), including nine-for-14 from 3-point land (64.3 percent), to go with 2.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 25.1 minutes a game.
He paces the GLIAC with a 3-point percentage of 50.6 percent, tying the league high with 3.3 3-point makes per game.
Fernholz and the rest of the men’s basketball squad return to the SDC Gymnasium, hosting Saginaw Valley State on Thursday (7:30 p.m.) and Wayne State on Saturday (2 p.m.).
